Open-source solutions for Internet domains
Our host operating system here is powered by Slackware Linux v13.1 x86_64 edition coupled with 8GB memory plus more than 4TB hard drive storage. Linux, Apache, MySQL, & PHP (LAMP) are at the heart of virtually all Internet domains, ours included.
Slackware is an ideal Linux distro for nearly any purpose and especially for ours. It's the most Unix-like of any and one of the most stable. Slackware is the oldest distro still in production and was also one of the first out of the gate. Unlike most, if not all, distros... Slackware64 is a "64-bit pure" distro in that it is not multi-lib and, therefore, contains no 32-bit support (although it can be easily added, if desired). Slackware32 is a complete self-contained 32-bit distro for those without 64-bit extensions.
All development is performed on this system while our production servers are hosted on a DSL feed with the rest of our domains. Our best efforts have been put into assuring that our page layouts scale correctly to any video resolution. We will not support Flash content until Adobe gets their shit together with 64-bit support. However, registered users with unix shell accounts have no such restrictions imposed upon their public websites. For that matter, much of our web development itself is done with Adobe Creative Suite 4 through a Windows XP64 virtual machine. We just will not use Flash content on the system site until it's time is ready.
This site is subject to change without prior notice. It is a work in progress at this time. Don't believe everything you see or read until you no longer see "always under construction" above! Many things will be merely placeholders until real content is provided.
